Thiruppugazh ( "Glory to the Lord" or "Divine glory") is a 15th century anthology of Tamil religious songs dedicated to Murugan, the son of Shiva, written by the poet-saint Arunagirinathar.

Meaning

thimira udhathi yanaiya: Like the dark sea

naraka jenana mathanil: and the hell is the concept of "birth".

viduvAyEl: If You push me into this "birth",

sevidu kurudu vadivu kuRaivu: (please ensure that) I am not deaf, blind or afflicted in any limb,

siRidhu midiyum aNugAdhE: or affected by poverty even slightly.

amarar vadivu madhiga kulamum: Divine figure, higher class by birth,

aRivu niRaiyum varavE: intelligence and righteous character should all be with me

nin aruLa dharuLi: by Your grace; and

enaiyu manadhodu adimai koLavum varavENum: You must come and accept me wholeheartedly as Your slave.

samara mugavel asurar thamadhu: In the battlefield, the demons (asuras) were conquered by You

thalaigaL uruLa: and their heads rolled;

migavEneeL saladhi alaRa: the huge ocean roared;

nediya padhalai thagara: the long and tall mount Krouncha was smashed into powder;

ayilai viduvOnE: when You wielded Your vEl (spear).

vemara vaNaiyil inidhu thuyilum: Sleeping peacefully on a serpent-bed

vizhigaL naLinan marugOnE: is the lotus-eyed Vishnu; You are His nephew!

midaRu kariyar kumara: You are the son of SivA with a black-stained throat!

pazhani viravum amarar perumALE.: You reside in Pazhani where DEvAs converge to worship You, Oh Great One!
